Mimar Sinan: "Bugünün Yönetim Ekipleri İçin Önemli Bir Ders - Important Lesson for Today's Management Teams"

Türk Telekom'un CEO'su @PaulDoany, "Bugünün Yönetim Ekipleri İçin Önemli Bir Ders - Important Lesson for Today's Management Teams" başlığı ile Mimar Sinan'ın Şehzadebaşı Camii için 400 yıl sonrasına yazdığı mektubunu anlatıyor:

Bir Mimar Sinan eseri olan Şehzadebaşı Camii´nin 1990´lı yıllarda devam eden restorasyonunu yapan firma yetkililerinden bir inşaat mühendisi, caminin restorasyonu sırasında yaşadıklarını anlatıyor.

“Cami bahçesini çevreleyen havale duvarında bulunan kapıların üzerindeki kemerleri oluşturan taşlarda yer yer çürümeler vardı. Restorasyon programında bu kemerlerin yenilenmesi de yer alıyordu. Biz inşaat fakültesinde teorik olarak kemerlerin nasıl inşaat edildiğini öğrenmiştik fakat taş kemer inşaası ile ilgili pratiğimiz yoktu. Kemerleri nasıl restore edeceğimiz konusunda ustalarla toplantı yaptık. Sonuç olarak kemeri alttan yalayan bir tahta kalıp çakacaktık. Daha sonra kemeri yavaş yavaş söküp yapım teknikleri ile ilgili notlar alacaktık ve yeniden yaparken bu notlardan faydalanacaktık. Kalıbı yaptık. Sökmeye kemerin kilit taşından başladık. Taşı yerinden çıkardığımızda hayretle iki taşın birleşme noktasında olan silindirik bir boşluğa yerleştirilmiş bir cam şişeye rastladık.

Şişenin içinde dürülmüş beyaz bir kâğıt vardı. Şişeyi açıp kâğıda baktık. Osmanlıca bir şeyler yazıyordu. Hemen bir uzman bulup okuttuk. Bu bir mektup idi ve Mimar Sinan tarafından yazılmıştı. Şunları söylüyordu:

"Bu kemeri oluşturan taşların ömrü yaklaşık 400 senedir. Bu müddet zarfında bu taşlar çürümüş olacağından siz bu kemeri yenilemek isteyeceksiniz. Büyük bir ihtimalle yapı teknikleri de değişeceğinden bu kemeri nasıl yeniden inşaa edeceğinizi bilemeyeceksiniz. İşte bu mektubu ben size, bu kemeri nasıl inşa edeceğinizi anlatmak için yazıyorum."

Koca Sinan mektubunda böyle başladıktan sonra o kemeri inşa ettikleri taşları Anadolu´nun neresinden getirttiklerini söyleyerek izahlarına devam ediyor ve ayrıntılı bir biçimde kemerin inşasını anlatıyordu.

Bu mektup bir inşanın, yaptığı işin kalıcı olması için gösterebileceği çabanın insanüstü bir örneğidir. Bu mektubun ihtişamı, modern çağın insanlarının bile zorlanacağı taşın ömrünü bilmesi, yapı tekniğinin değişeceğini bilmesi, 400 sene dayanacak kâğıt ve mürekkep kullanması gibi yüksek bilgi seviyesinden gelmektedir. Şüphesiz bu yüksek bilgiler de o koca mimarin erişilmez özelliklerindendir. Ancak erişilmesi gerçekten zor olan bu bilgilerden çok daha muhteşem olan 400 sene sonraya çözüm üreten sorumluluk duygusudur.

A civil engineer from the restoration company working for Şehzadebaşı Mosque in 1990, a masterpiece of Architect Sinan, is sharing his memories;

“There was corrosion on the arch stones building the doors on walls framing the Mosque Garden. Renewal of the arch was a part of the restoration plan. We have learnt at the faculty how to construct arch in theory however we didn’t have any practice on stone arch construction. We had a meeting with the experts on how to restore the arch. We decided to penetrate a wooden plate just under the arch. Then we were going to remove the arch pieces one by one and take technical notes down and use these notes to rebuild and restore it. We built the mold. We started the removal from the corner stone. When we removed the corner stone, we were surprised to find a glass bottle placed into the cylindrical hole between two stones.

Within the bottle, there was a piece of rolled paper. We opened the bottle and looked at the paper. It was in Ottoman. We found a linguistic expert. This was a letter and was written by Sinan himself. He said:

"Expected life of the stones making this arch is around 400 years. After that time, these stones will start deteriorating and you will want to renew the arch. Most probably construction techniques will have changed by then and you won’t know how to reconstruct this arch. I am writing this letter to you in order to explain how you will reconstruct it.”

Sinan continued his words by describing from what part of Anatolia they brought the stones used for this arch and explained how they constructed the arch in detail.

This letter is an extra ordinary example of an effort put forward by a person to make sure his work last forever. The magnificence of this letter comes from a high level of knowledge which might not even be borne by modern age people such as service life of a stone, the fact that construction techniques would change in time, using a paper and ink which can last 400 years. There is no doubt this high level of knowledge is one of many unfathomable characteristics of the glorious architect. But the most magnificent thing more than the knowledge beyond reach is the sense of responsibility creating a solution for a time 400 years after.
